Rev. Dr. Phyllis Hayes-Reams
Rev. Dr. Phyllis Hayes-Reams has been a member of the AME Church all her life. She was born and raised in Long Beach, California. She is a graduate of Long Beach Polytechnic High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology from Stanford University and Medical Doctorate from Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science (Drew/UCLA Medical Education Program). She completed specialty training in Internal Medicine at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center, and a Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at UCLA. She has a Master’s Degree in Public Health with emphasis in Epidemiology from UCLA. In 1997 she joined the medical staff of the Southern California Permanente Medical Group at the Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center as its first full-time Staff Geriatrician. She is board certified in Geriatric Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
Rev. Dr. Hayes-Reams has a Master of Arts in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. She was ordained an Itinerant Elder in the Southern California Conference of the AME Church in 2003. She states what drew her to New Philadelphia AME Church was the warmth, sincere caring, love, and worship of God through Jesus Christ that she felt and continues to feel being a part of the “NuPhilly” family.
Her favorite scriptures are Psalm 46:10 (Be still, and know that I am God) and Philippians 4:13 (I can do all this through Him who gives me strength).
She is married and has two adult children.
